SUGGESTED NAME FOR SYDNEY’S SPAN. SYDNEY, Alay 13. The suggestion that when the Sydney Harbour Bridge is opened lor traffic it should he christened “Anzae Bridge is hardly likely to find official favour, although it probably would be accepted by the people of Sydney if they are allowed a say in the matter. At night, as has been suggested, cross of purple lights on the massive bridge—a cross of remembrance on the world’s greatest single span arch—would bo fitting. Even a comparatively small New South Wales city like Goulburn has its cross of light, high up on a hill, as a war memorial. Dr. Bradfield, the man behind the brume, strongly favours the illumination of the in-Oh in times of national rejoicing, to represent the badge of the Austialiau military forces—the Crown and the rising sun. as a tribute to those who took part in the war. Looking up at the bridge, it is difficult to realise that, between footway handrails on the arch span, it is onlv about 20ft less in width than York. Clarence. ' and Kent streets— wo 1known city thorough ares-would he if they were combined into one wide avenue.
