At a. sitting of the Owaka Court, before Mr Dixon, William Mackay, storekeeper and Postmaster at Paptttowai, pleaded guilty, ns an officer of the Government, to the theft of postal notes of a value of £B6 7s lOd. The accused, who is a young married man with a family, sent a wire on March 2oth. las/, that the Post Office was broken into and that Postal notes totalling £36 7s lOd were stolen, The matter was investigated by the police, and the accused then admitted, that lie had stolen the money. The accused was committed for sentence, bail being granted in self £2OO, and two securities of £IOO each.
