David Collinsoii, a salesman, aged 35, pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court- to-day to charges of hav. ing in his possession, without lawtui authority, certain forged one pound notes', knowing them to he forged. Ht was committed for trial at the July session of the Supreme Court at Well-

ington. • In opposing an application for bail. Snb-Inspector AY ard said the police suggested that the accused was one of the principals in what appeared to be widespread conspiracy. Bail was refused.

Evidence was given by a large number of witnesses. The most notable was -that of Elsie Cliigey, housemaid, employed at the Masonic Hotel. She said the accused occupied room 16, on the top floor from April 25th to 28th. On the 28th, she cleaned the room. The accused was not in it. but hiluggage wa s still there. Site did not see anything under the linoleum, but the following day. when she went to the room at 1 p.m., to scrub it out, she found notes wrapped up in brown paper underneath the linoleum under the wardrobe. The notes were wrapped tightly like a book. When she found a- parcel she opened' it, aiicl' she took tlie 'notes to Air AY ard, storeman at the Hotel.
