GOOD PROGRESS MADE

AUCKLAND, May 18

The Union ,Steam Ship Company’s motor-ship Hauraki, which has been m the Calliope J>o c k eleven weeks, will probably be undocked about Tuesday. Good progress has been made with repairs, When the Hauraki grounded at New [Plymouth the vessel struck for’ ard, and Ole shock had a concertina effect right through tho length of the hull, the intercostals in the tanks Wing strained. When the vessel was dockerl the damaged plates were rotciired, but further investigation showthnt pinch more work wag necessary.

The repairing of tho Hauraki is tho biggest job of the kind done in Auckland for many years. The boilermakers engaged were earning as much as -£9 15s a week for day shifts, nod there was a higher rate of pay for men on the night shifts.
