Only'a small sum of money in the safe was taken. MR HOLLAND’S VIEWS. TLVIARU, May 10. Mr Holland, M.P., Leader of the Labour Party, yesterday at Dunedin received information from "Wellington to the effect that the Government had ordered 50,000 tons of coal from Newcastle and, at once wired the Prime Minister, protesting, and asking whether this information was correct, and if so, strongly protesting. To-day Mr Forbes replied as follows: “With reference to vour telegram regarding the importation of coal, the position is that the Railway Department is taking, and so far ns is known at present, will continue to take, all of tlie local coal suitable for train running purposes that it can use. The Department/ds importing relatively a srnaUitFquautity of Newcastle coabVir for--storage in open aw depots;;. This will not affect the usual orders for New Zealand coal.” Mr Holland points out that Hon. Mr Forbes’s reply hardly squares with Hon. Mr W. A. Witch's explanation of yesterday.
