HELP FOR MAURITIUS
BRITISH POLICY EXPLAINED. (British Official -Wireiess.) RUGBY, May U In the House of Coinmnos, Dr. T. D. Sliiels, .Under S,ecptary for Colonies said that the Government had .given early arid sympathetic consideration to the situation in Mauritius following tin recent hurricane and it proposed to make a grant of £SOOO in aid of relief of distress and to guarantee the interest and sinking fund .payments', of a loan to he raised by the Government of Mauritius, to be. used for, repair and replacement, of Government property, loans on security to planters and. otheiis up to the amount of the losses suffered through the hurricane, and for the construction of public works. This assitance is subject to a condition, which has been accepted by the Colonial Government, that, .a /mancial commission shall be - appointed--to visit the colony and advise on the measures to secure a balanced;-Budget at the earliest possible date.
