He was formerly manager of the WelUngton-Mannwntu railway, which was purchased by 411 1> Government on the completion of the main trunk line. Mr M,a<-chbanks was a member of the Railway Commission which recommended a large number ol economies in the Department- and a ehang.' from political control.

As five directors have to be appointed, it Is understood that the Government is desirous of making the directorate representative of all parts ol the Dominion.
