On Easter Saturday, David Bell, farmer, while driving a car on the Main Road near Geraldine, collided vitli - cyclist, Vera Goodeve, aged 16, who died from the injuries .she received. On that occasion the jury failed to ngree.Bell was tried again, at Christchurch to-day. The evidence was that 801 l was travelling thirty miles an hour on the wrong side of the road, and the girl was rMing on her correct side, but without a light. One . witness stated Bell was steering an erratic course. The evidence of witnesses • who saw Bell was that he smelt of liquor, hut was not drunk. The prisoner said he had had only three drh’ks and was sober. Tire jury found th# prisoner, guilty oT negligent driving. He was remanded for sentence.
