NEGLIGENT DRIVING. (By Telegraph—rev tress Association) CHRISTCHURCH, May 6. In the Supreme Court Leslie Norman Macintosh was charged with negligently driving a motor car on the Main North Road, thereby causing the death of George H. Garbutt. The Crown said that at eleven o’clock on the night of January 25th, Garbutt, a chemist of Kaiapoi, was killed near the northern Waimakariri bridge, Garbutt was on a motor cycle and passed the taxi going from Christchurch and was fifty yards ahead. Going over the bridge the taxi man saw a motor car coming irom the opposite direction and this car, a witness would say. was on the wrong side of the road. When the crash occurred accused’s car did not stop but continued on to crash into the taxi. Accused when interviewed after the accident said that he did not feel too well and there was a smell of alcohol on' his breath. Accused said that he was driving along the road when the motor cyclist approaching, swerved into him. The case is proceeding.
DAMAGES SOUGHT. PALMERSTON N.. May G. Tn the Supreme Court to-day Phillip Llewellyn Smith, of Bunnythorpe, a roadman, proceeded against Johnathan Svmonds and Alice May Symonds of Feilding claiming £4,000 general and £629 special damages for injuries received in a motor collision at Bunnythorpe on August 18, in consequence of which his leg was amputated. Justice MacGregor, awarded £I.BOO general and £654 special damages.
