WEST COAST RUGBY UNION. The weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union was held last evening at Greymouth. Present: Messrs J. Guy (chair). T. Mclntosh, T. O’Donnell, W. Williams, W. Pring, A. White, J. Rothwell, 8. Hayden, J. Kay, J. Stokes, W. Hannam, W. Bielieno, J. Kyle, F. Eggelton, T. P. Ryan, and the Secretary, Mr W. Bruce. An application was received from the Cobden Club for the transfer of J. Rinimer from the Rival Club to Cobden. Mr Eggelton (Cobden delegate) explained that Rinimer played for Rivals last Saturday purely because that team was short of players. He was a financial member of the Cobden Club and a resident of Cobden. Mr Mclntosh considered that the Rival Club should be severely censured for playing Rinimer, as last year endless trouble had been caused through players living in one district playing tor team B in other districts. Mr Ryan explained that Rinimer had been on relieving duty at Hokitika as a servant of the Railway Department. He was quite entitled to play for the Rival Club in that he had fulfilled the residential qualification. Mr Houston, captain of' the Rival team, had asked him (Mr Ryan) if Rinimer would lie permitted to play the one game for the, club, as he would be hack in Greymoiitli bv the coming Saturday. MlO’Donnell said that the player should make a personal application. If this application were granted, similar eases would occur again. Mr Eggelton fnrthein explained that Rimemr did not know he was breaking a rule wlien he. I played last Saturday. The Cobden Club did not. want to play him until the transfer wa K granted. Jn answer to a query from Air Stokes, the Chairman said that once a man played for a chib he was a member of that club. Air Ryan considered that, a personal application was unocessary as imnmer, being a resident of Cobden, could not play for Rivals again. The rule required a personal application from players being transferred from one club to another in the same district, but in thi K ease the player had been only relieving at Hokitika, and was now back in Greymouth. Air Rothwell moved that the transfer be granted, and the motion was seconded by Air AVhite. Air Mclntosh said that if another such case cropped no the Union would have to act in a similar manner, and he moved an amendment that Rinimer be requested to mnkp .a personal application. Tbe amendment, which was seconded by Mr O’Donnell, was lost on a show of bands, and the motion w% carried.
The Hokitika Sub-Union wrote recommending the application of a Rimu player fop reclassification from senior to iunior.—Granted.
The Secretary "was instructed to notify the Sub-Union that the Union would offer no objection to‘ the Rivals v. Excelsiors game in tlie second round, commencing at 1.30 p.m., in order to allow of an open air boxing tourney be. ing held on Cass Square on the day of that match.
