FOUR SHOPS DESTROYED. ‘ ! WHAKATANE, May 2. Fire at' Tareatua at 1.30 o’clock this morning destroyed four shops, y those of'G. C. Peebles, , general storekeeper, E. M. Bi-yen ton, butcher, McCall, saddler, and Mrs Sutherland. ,• ' milliner.* The contents of McCall’s and Mrs Sutherland's shops were removed to safety. ’ The’ buildings were valued at over ,{I2OOO. . and the contents of Peebles’ and at a'value of £2OOO. The contents oi Peebles’ shop were insured in the State Fife Office, but the amount is not available .at present. Bryenton’s stock was uninsured.
