RADIO PROGRAMME

FRIDAY 31 AY Ist. 5 ■; Mister Roe, who dispensed Radio Magic to the enjoyment of IYA listeners some months ago, js again to entertain with a. second series of Radio Magic, commencing this evening. Tlie New Clarion Quartet, consisting of Misses Lilian Woods and Beryl Smith, Messrs Lambert Harvey and Duncan Black, will be heard in several solos, duets and quartettes, including a medley of old-time songs. The orchestral octet will also contribute.

A special feature of 2YA’m pr°gramme will be a recital by Mr Clement May of excerpts from C. ,TDennis’s ‘‘The. Sentimental Bloke.” Mr T)eni£ Sheard (the Australian tenor), will again delight listeners in four popular songs with orchestral accompaniment, “Eileen Allanah,” and “Where the River Shannon Flows,” “When My Ships Come Sailing Home” and “When Irish EyCs are Smiling.” Another vocalist will be Mr Geo. Neel, baritone. Mr Allan Shnnd will bo heard in novelty piano solos. The Orchestrion will supply the incidental music for the evening.

■Making his dehut to 3YA listeners this evening will be Mr Karl Atkinson, whose gramophone lecture-recitals from IYA hav e been so popular. His * heme will bo “The Lure of the Waltz.” Mr Atkinson is now oil the a Iministrative staff of tlm Broadcasting Company, Christchurch. Also contributing to the programme will be Mrs Nelson Kerr (contralto) and Mr R. S. H. .Buchanan (bass), presenting a variety of vocal numbers, Aiks Ailccn Warren (pianiste), the Melody Makers (with saxophone and piano) ■ lid the Studio Trio, presenting bright music. Introduced into the play will be “Tim Cottage Scene” from “The Lady of Lyons,” written by Lord Lytton. It is to be produced by A'b Nnare Hooper, who will bo assist M by Miss Daisy Armstrong and Mr H. L. Shaw.

A popular programme will Im> provided by the 4Y\ Salon GrolH'M’"’. 'f’he vocali/sts will be Miss talks (mezzo-soprano), Miss M. Kenward (mezzo-contralto) and Mr Montague (tenor) with Scottish humour from Mr B. Brown. Selections on the harmonica. “Popular Marches” and “Popular Melodies,” will he played by Air E. Murphy. SATURDAY. MAY 2nd. This evening, IYA will broadcast a studio concert to he given by the Municipal Band, under the direction of Captain George Buckley. From 2YA at 7.40, under the auspices of the W.E.A., there will he an interesting dialogue by Mr J. H. Elliot and Dr I. A. Henning, lecturers oi the Victoria University College. The dialogue is entitled “Two Australians Discuss the State of their Country.” 2YA will be relaying the concert to be given by the Wellington Symphony, Orchestra under Mr Leon de Manny, in the Wellington Town Hall. An orchestral programme par excellence will be presented. Miss Hilda ()l»;d- ---’■"• (eon tve I to) will be heard in two solos, “The Soldier’s Wife” and “Soring Waters,” both by Rachmaninoff.

This evening’s hi neons programme for 3YA (also to he broadcast by 4YA) will contain much variety. Popular songs will be sung by Mr* C. E. McDownll (soprano), Miss Kathleen. Bond ‘(contralto), Mr Davi-1 McGill (tenor) and Mr Leslie Stewart (baritone). Miss Edna .Jarden, who will contribute piano improvisations, is a very accomplished musician. Banjolin Mo los by Mr Arthur Hodgson and popular airs played on the mouth organ by Air J. Wood ham are also on the programme. Two humorous numbers will he given by Air Harold Shaw and there will he two e°rnet solos by Air R. H. Ohlsoii.
