The intensity of the cyclonic disturbances decreased' yesterday but heavy ‘Tttin.. ..continues on the north toast increasing the danger of floods. The Hunter river threatens to over-run its banks any minute, Many Cessnock families have evacuated, the water being severa line-lies deep in the homes.
Some settlers in the Maitland district are cut off by deep water and railway lines are submerged. A constable at Cessnock waded chest high in the water and rescued a man suffering from pneumonia.
Yesterday’s rainfall in this district ranges to six inches.
