On his rounds at ‘AYestport on Sunday evening, the nightwatchman, Air H. H. Todd found a man, almost naked, lying on the footpath in front of an hotel in Palmerston Street (says the “News”). A final reminder is given of the concert and ball in the Kokatahi Public Hall to-night in aid of the Kok-atahi-Koiterangi Sports Club. The entries received for the W ostland Competitions opening on the 7th. prox total about 520 which is an increase over last year’s record total. There lias been considerable gain in the dancing section where there are about ]4O entries, to facilitate the judging both Princess Theatre and All Saint’s Hull will be utilised for several sessions, and it will. be hoeessary to hold an extra night session on this occasion. Poppies are now on sale throughout the district as reminders of Anzac Day. I’he nroeeeds are devoted to the unemployed soldiers’ funds. Locally Mrs Diedrich’s shop in Revell Street (adjoining Millers) has been placed very kindly at the- disposal of the R.S.A. and poppies will he on sale there from to-morrow. On Friday ladies will be engaged on the. premises making wreaths for the cemetery, and assistance will he welcomed at this task during the afternoon and evening. It is hoped to augment considerably this year the sale of poppies and the cooperation of the public to that end is invited.

Air T. A. Johnston. District Engineer tor Public AYorks, who has made a visit of inspection ol the recent Hood damage at Karamea, states that a pack track was onened on Friday from the point where the highvey was damaged by slips, etc., to Karamea. Ihe highway between Taffytown and Corby vale was opened to-day, thus reducing the walking and riding distance between C'orbvvalo and Big Bluff to about font miles. Given fine weather, the road would be open right through in about three weeks. On the length bejond the Bluff the damage to the road and , the slips was as great as at the time of the big earthquake. At the Arapito siding a number of men were employed making a deviation, rendered neeossa rv owing to the erosion oi the Karamea river. The fm?.l restoration of the country roads and bridges affected in the Karamea sector would cost about £3OOO. With regard to the Karamea harbour. Air Johnston stated that though the bar was in good condition, the port was not workable.
