WAR PENSIONS
CHAIRMAN OF BOARD CARRYING ON. WELLINGTON, April 15. No final decision has yet been reached regarding the proposal to reconstitute the War Pensions Appeal Board in the interests of economy. Questioned on the subject, tHo Minister of Defence said lie anticipated that Sir "Walter Stringe* - chairman of the board would be asked to carry on for some considerable time and at least for the duration of the sitting in Auckland. As chairman of the board. Sir Walter has to visit the four main centres at regular intervals and it is understood that the travelling expenses thus involved led to the proposal that a Magistrate in each city should act as chairman. Objections to the proposal to retire Sir M alter, whose work as chairman lias given general satisfaction. have presumably led the Government to postpone the contemplated change.
