EDUCATION CUT
POSITION OF BOARD MEMBERS. (By Telegraph —Per Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 15. AH the officers in the employ of the Auckland Education Board will have their salaries reduced by 10 per cent trom April 1, 2000 teaeheis being affected. This information was contained in a memorandum from the Education Department received by the board this morning. • “This has not come as a surprise,” said Mr A. Burns, chairman; “but I regret that, owing to the financial position of the country, Parliament has been unable to restrict the cut to the higher salaries. Parliament has been impartial, however, and all have to make an equal sacrifice.” “Does the reduction apply to members of the. board?” asked Mr S. B. Sims. Mr Burns: Yes. Instead of getting 10rl an hour you will get only 9d. Afr IT. S. W. King thought the clause, “in the employ of the hoard,” did not refer to members of the hoard. If that wore not the ease they would not be subject to the reduction. Air Burns thought that board members would bo affected by the i eduction, Hut suggested that they get ii ruling from the Department,
