WAGE CUTS
CMRISTCH URCIT. COUNCIL. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, April 16. Notice of motion will be given by Cr. H. T. J. Thacker, at me next meeting of tho Christchurch City Council, that tlTe ord* in the staff salaries shall be on a sliding scale, commencing at 10 per oei't. on flic highest salary (£1.250 a year), and reducing the cut by stages of one per cent. Employees receiving lees than £250 will no t lie affected. Cr. Thacker contends that his motion "ill not bo a contravention rtt the Standing Order against it. BY HOSPITAL HOARD. HAMILTON, April 16. The AYaikato Hospital Board has adopted a 10 per cent, cut; This is to effect a saving of £3,500. Employees rcceivim' less than £SO cash annually are exempted. Th o Board protested strongly against the Department s arbitrary action in fixing the Boaid s maximum estimates for the 1 year.
