METHODIST BIBLE CLASS

CAMZ J AT STILLWATER. During Easter the West Coast Methodist Young Men's Bible Class Union held a camp at the Stillwater School. It was attended by 35 young men and boys from Greymouth, Westport, Reef ton and Runanga. In spiteof the adverse weather conditions the i campers enjoyed themselves greatly t Fortunately they had the use or two large buildings and all slept in these instead of tents, which wou’d have, been rather damp. Oh the wet ways tn e cook laboured under difficulties and did well in the circumstance,* The camp programme was foursquare, A large part of the time was devoted to sports and recreation, although the spiritual side of lifts was not neglected.. The morning BtwUwa in the camp were based on a poem ea» titled “The Explorer,” by Rudy aril Kipling, and they were found to be very stimulating of thought. The following were some of the most noteworthy events in camp:— The imitiation ceremony, which was a most mysterious and alarming rite and caused a lot of fun. The annual meeting of the West Coast Y.M.B.C-, Union, at which officers for the following year were elected. Mr W. D. Panckhurst, was elected President, Mr E. H. Dailey, secretary and Mr J. M. Paukhurst, treasurer. Vice-presi-dents: —Rev. G. E. Brown, Rev T. W. Parsons, Rev. G. Knowlcs-Smith, Rev. G. H. Boston, Rev. C. Robinson. The Missionary meeting, at which the campers learned a great deal about the conditions of life of various races in many parts of the earth. The camp concert, at which star artists gave some wonderful items. Elocutionary competitions were held during the concert. Louis Neubauer was declared the winner of the junior grade and E. H. Dailey won the senior grade. The concert was keenly enjoyed by the campers and some visitors. ■The Sunday evening service with Communion and the camp fire meeting which followed it will remain long in the memory of campers. The later meeting was a great experience which brought campers into touch with the deep things of life. The sports were held on Monday. Unfortunately, the weather conditions were not favourable but in spite of that; the events were keenly contested. Individua* championship medals were won by the following: Senior: J. M. Panckhurst and F. Lindbom tied with an equal number of points; Intermediate: T. Sotheran ; Junior: T. Peek. The Stalker Cup for the best all-round athlete, was won by T. Peek, and the Sports Shield was. won by the Greymouth Junior Class.
