Several Europeans and malty natives wore injured, when a live exploded dynamite at Assouan Dam, causing damage estimated at many thousands sterling. British engineers in charge of the dam made frantic efforts to prevent the flames reaching the dynamite shed. Harrigtou. the mechanical engineer, was killed when herociallv climbing a ladder placed on the burning building, in the hope of preventing the disaster. T'lie explosion blew the whiteliot shed roof in ail directions.
