S.Z. REFEREES ASSOCIATION, THE BRITISH TOUR, (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) HAMILTON, April 7. in the Presidential address of the annual conference of th e New Zealand Rugby Referees Association at Hamilton reference was made to the British tour.
1). McKenzi e was of the opinion that from a referee’s standpoint the tour was an epoch making one. The executive had nought from the inception to secure a uniform interpretation of the laws of the game thro ugliout the Dominion tour. It seemed to put the matter to the test that the conception of the New Zealand Union ;-C and the Association on right lines was proved by the fact that- British players y): were never at a loss to understand, the interpretations’ of the referees: jin, matches. Tliere were points of difference and tlmse were matters of ,agree- . \ ment as to whether the interpretations as given by the New Zealand rules ; were not better, in the spirit of ' law-j " 1 than those practised in England. It ■> ; seemed that New Zealand would fall into line with the rules of the International Board.
The speakers considered that a. golden opportunity was missed in failing to arrange a conference to discuss the rules of interpretations with Mr Baxtej* j manager of the British Team. Such a conference would have brought nearer the day when the same Rugby would be played the world over, Officers elected were Presiden t: C. Eyre (Dunedin). Committee: D. McKenzie, J. E. Bradley, E.
