The officials of the Westland Racing Club much appreciate the many expressions of sympathy with the C'lub in the serious set back experienced by the loss of the grandstand etc on Saturday morning. All the Racing Clubs on the Coast offered to assist in any way possible, while many personal messages have been sent also. Mi- T. Eldon Coates, Chairman of the Greymonth District Racing Committee, has been particularly active in the offer of practical help, and his lead is being Supported by influential persons in other centres. Reef ton and Westport Clubs all promptly preferred assistance within their power, so that the bond of sympathy between the Clubs is a very tangible one, and the united help is greatly appreciated. The Club is circularising the owners who had entered for the meeting explaining the situation, and the prospects for the future. Last week while the heavy flood was being experienced the lowlying port* ions of the town were under water ifor several hours In places, and when the water retired as the tide fell, it left behind a good coating of mud on the footpaths and streets.
