UNION COY’S NEW STEAMER
The Union Company’s new steamer, lx ini. which arrived yesterday at Gre.Vmoutli. from Wanganui, was built last year in Aberdeen hv Messrs John Lewis and Sons, for the Union Company, and she arrived in New Zealand on February 22. 1931. She arrived under the command of Captain ‘William--55011, but Captain S. D. Fraser was subsequently appointed. Ihe Kini >s a single-screw steamer of 779 tons net, and her engines develop 900 h.p.. giving the vessel a speed of 10 knots. Sli • has an overall length ol 229 ieet. and is 39 foot in breadth.
The new ship has two large liouts for cargo-earrving, the hatches being specially suitable for the rapid loading of timber, two strong winches being placed at each hold to work the derricks. She carries a crew of 2.1. and the officers at present on the vessel are: Captain G. D. I* laser. Chief Officer. Ur T. F. lievan ; Second Officer Ur W. Keiioe : 'third Officer, Mr H. J. petty. The Chief Engineer is Air HKnewstubb. the Second Engineer. Mr ,T Matthews and the Third Engineer, Air H. Steward.
