Air Havengas Budget disclosed a deficit, of one million seven hundred thousand sterling,- from which is deducted last year’s surplus of practically half a million. The Minister estimated the revenue <m existing basis would fall short: of Hie expenditure by one million six hundred and seventy-six thousand. The Minister admitted that last year lie was two optimistic, but erred in good company. There wen* stronger grounds to-da v for adopting the same attitude. He hoped to reduce the deficit by seven .hundred and eightveiglit thousand. The income tax rebate for married people would be reduced to three hundred pounds; additional tax on petrol threepence per gallon, inland postages to he raised to twopence, accounts to a penny and newspapers which hitherto had been free, to a farthing per ounce. Stamp duties on bills to twopence. .Millinery duties will also lie increased.
