RADIO PROGRAMME

(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) SATURDAY, MARCH 2lst. This the Auckland Municipal Band concert 40 be given in the Town Hall will be relayed by IYA. The soloists for the evening will be Phyllis Gribben (contralto), Mr Ralph Ji»i.».rigge (.tenor), Air Hal. McLennan (flautist) and Mr Fred Bowes (cornetist). A particularly fine programme has been arranged. 2YA will relay irom the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall a concert to be- given by the Wellington Apollo Singers. The major portion of the programme will be vocal and includes a number of choruses and quartet items. Mips Ava Symons, violinist, will be heard in solos and Mr Ernest Tenner, A.R.A.M. (pianist). will play.

A new Hawaiin instrumental quartet will contribute to 3YA’*i variety programme. This quartet consists of three steel guitars and a banjo-ukelele. Also on the programme will be Mr Jock Lockhart (Scottish humorist), the Rose and Thistle Duo in cabaret songs at the piano with banjolele, Miss Aileen Warren (pianiste) j Mr W. W. Sumner (aecordian player), Mr E. R. Pitman (tenor), Mr Leslie Fleming (bafts) and the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio. This programme will l>e relayed to 4YA.

The church services to bo broadcast to-morrow evening will be as follows; — 1Y A.—Hereford Street Congregational Church. Preacher Rev. A. V. Whiting. 2YA.—St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedra!. Preacher, Canon Percival James. 3YA —East Belt Methodist Church. Preacher, Rev. W. H. Greenslade. 4YA.—Church of Christ, St. Andrew Street. Preacher, Pastor W. D. More. MONDAY, MARCH 23rd. Two recitals, in which organ, violin and contralto singer will take part, will be introduced into 2YA’s programme this evening. Mr H. Temple* White will be the organ it, and Mr Leon do Manny* tlip violinist (making a delightful musical combination) while the vocalist will be Miss Hilda Chudley. Violin and organ will play selections and will also accompany Miss Chudley’s three songs. These recitals' will he relayed from the Taranaki Street Methodist Church. T» the Studio programme, prominence will be given to baritone solos by Air Ernest Short, wlm will sing “The Pauper’s Grave,” “The White Dove” (from “The Rogue Song”) and “Largo al Factoluni” (from “The Barber of Seville,”) An orchestral progti'inmo of merit will be provided by the 2YA Orchestrina. Goddard’s “Berceuse” will be played as a clarinet and trumpet duct with orchestral accompaniment.

A now artist will he singing for 3YA This will he Aliss Helen McKay A.T.C. L. (soprano) late of Southland. She will nrove a very acceptable performer. Aliss Leila Black (mezzo-soprano), Afr AY. J. Bi'-chlagor (tenor) and Mr Tv. Ar Fountain (baritone) are also on the programme. Humorous items will be provided by Air J. P. Darragli. The instrumental portion of the programme will he contributed by the ’o'V-lston Band under conductor Tt. J. E'Stalh A cornet solo “The Caledonians” will be played by Bandsman R. Olden, to hand accompaniment.

4YA will broadcast on relay from the Einrly Settlers’ Hall, the proceedings in connection with the celebration of the eighty-third anniversary of the founding of Otago and Southland. In the evening there will he a concert and social, to which some of the finest artists in the citv will contribute. Silent day at IYA.
