T HE ARBITRATION BILL. IN LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY. (Australian Press Association) (Received 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 20. The Legislative Council by 33 to 2-1 referred the Arbitration Bill to a Select Committee. Mr Willis, the Government representative in the Council, said the decision would he accepted as an intended insult, to the Labour Parly. No Labour member would sit on the committee.
During the debate. Mr Pillans, supporting the Bill, said it would bring industrial peace. The provisions were drastic, so that the workers would not have to how the knee to foreign capitalists, who are coming here, imposing unfair conditions. Mr Browne declared the Bill vindictive. and was an exhibition of diabolical cunning. He protested against clause thirteen, constituting an industrial commission, which Mr Boyce had described as enabling any one to be appointed a Mussolini in Industry.
