During a heavy snow storm, the steamer Hera of 1080 tons, mu ashore at Cliffs near Hammer!eist, the northern most town in Europe, and pounded to pieces. An officer swam ashore with a life line and fifty-six passengers and crew were saved. Six were drowned The survivors staggered into the village, after a terrible march across the mountains and ice. in a snow storm in which another died.
