OBITUARY
It is with great regret we record the) death of Mrs Mclntosh, wife of Mr J. J. Mclntosh, proprietor of the well known hostelry, the Red Lion Hotel. Airs -Mclntosh has been a well-known figure about the hotel since Mr McIntosh went into occupation, and is very widely known. She was devoted to her household duties, and it gave her the greatest pleasure to see to the comfort of the hotel guests. Until quite recently Airs Mclntosh was in her usual state of health, and was always busying herself about home duties and improvements. Only recently extensive alterations internally to the hotel were carried out, and Airs cAfclnosh took an active part in designing and supervising the carrying out of the details. Her ambition was to make the hotel as comfortable and convenient- as possible, and she worked tirelessly to that end all through her busy life. She was,a great helpmate, and home . duties, were never neglected. A little over a month ago her health began to fail; and tv lien the medical advice was taken, it was found her case was serious. ' She was, removed to the lfospital for special treatment, but an operation disclosed the full nature of her complaint, and as soon as her condition would allow, she was brought home. There every attention . that devoted duty’ could afford was-given by her husband and family, and everything possible was done Foy her. She WaS under close medical attention, but despite all that was done give passed away about 11 o’clock last night after a few hours’ unconsciousness. Earlier in the day she had recognised and spoke to her family, and then lapsed into unconsciousness, passing away quietly in the end. Airs Mclntosh leaves a much respected husband and a family consisting of one son. John Alclntosh junr. and eight daughters, Alesdames .Tomlinson (Blenheim), H. Wells (Woodstock). Steele and AlcAlnnaway (Hokitika), Perham (Invercargill), King (Grey- • mouth) and Aliases Melba and Alva Alclntosh (Hokitika). Airs J. Howat (Woodst-ock) and Mrs Lillycraph (Adelaide) are sisters. All; the members of the family were able to be present for the sad end of one who was a very devoted mother. -
The deceased was an ardent supporter of all local functions, being a ready and practical. helper where she could. In Fire Brigade and Hospital matters as .well as, other philantrophic work,' Mrs Alclntosh was an ardent worker as occasion demanded, and a very ready giver. She, was of a happy disposition, and full of kindly thought l for all. She will be missed by many to whom she was a- good friend. Throughout the town to-day very general regret,is being expressed, and very full sympathy is .being ex-tended-to.Mr Alclntosh and-the members of the family in their extremely sad and trying bereavement. The funeral has been fixed fur 9.30 o’clock to-morrow after noun.
