As (here is sure to he a large attendance at the Princess Theatre tonight, early attendance is necessary. Seats are being reserved for members of choirs assisting with the community singing, intending occupants should he in possession, by 7.50. Children will he admitted downstairs for 6d each. All streets to-night will lead to Princess Theatre for the big community sing. The doors will open at 7.30, and the concert begins at 8 o’clock. As there is a very lull programme, punctuality will require to be observed. There should he some- very hearty singing to-night at what should prove quite a memorable gathering i The launching of the Rimu Gold Dre ding Coy’s, new steel dredge, Rimu No. 2, is ser down for 2 o’clock next Wednesday afternoon. The preparations for the event -are being advanced with great rapidity. At the launching ceremony a public address of appreciation from the local bodies will he presented to the Resident Manager of the Company (ML AY. J. R.adford). \t night the hall of the season will take nbue at the Soldier’s Hall, when the management of the Company will be the citizens’ guests at a monster civil function.
The Humphrey Bishop- Musical Comedy Company paid a welcome return visit at the Princess Theatre last evening when a capital programme of entirely new items was presented to i very pleased audience who gave the several performers a very gratifying reception and many recalls. From spirt to finish the programme submitted was enjoyable and the comedy numbers won special favour, causing much laughter and amusement. Altogether the entertainment was a bright and thoroughly eujovaLle one, and enhanced the excellent reputation that the talented oombinaion lias won in the district. Some of the best talent from Groymouth and Hokitika will appear, and a very entertaining programme should result. Finding till a,t a hen had been stolen from her fowl house, a "Westport resident complained to the police. Constable Matches made investigations at a hut occupied by four men. He saw a few feathers on the hearth and later found the missing fowl in a pot boiling over the fire. Being taxed with the theft one of the four admitted his guilt and together with the fowl, was taken to the police station. On Monday, before R Fox and C. D. Betts. J.P’s., Henry Connell was charged with the theft of a lion valued at Bs. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment.
As Mark Twain once said the report of his death at otic time was ‘‘much exaggerated,” and a similar happening has occurred to a resident of Koitorangi, the apparent mulibmim of a telegram to an East Coast paper having caused an announcement of his death, with the result that some consternation has been caused among his friends, and was followed by messages of condolence, which, happily, he has been personally able to notify were not required.
During the course of the sitting of the "Wardens Court this morning, when a application for a small dam was being heard. Mr J. A. Murdoch, counsel for applicant entered a protest against the fees now being charged for mining applications, which lie said was certainly not encouraging to those engaged in mining operations. In. the case in point, for a. small dam it cost £2 12s in fees, including £1 Is license fee and £1 for the consent of the Minister of Mines at Wellington, after the application had been fully enquired into hv the Lands Department and the Warden. "Warden Meldrum said the proper course for counsel to follow was to make representations to the Member for the District. The procedure being followed was the policy of the country and it was not his (the Warden’s) place to make representations to the authorities.

At the Magistrates Court, Greymouth yesterday, a claim for damages amounting to £57 C-.s 3d, repairs lor' car £37 Os 3d and depreciation £2l), by Frederick Gustavo Hahn, sawmilier of Aimura, was made against Patiick brands Tliorpy. draper, arising out of a collision between plaintiff’s and defendant's cars, on Omoto Road on May 23rd. 1930. Defendant counterclaimed for £45 2s, £3O 2s being for repairs and £ls for depreciation. The Magistrate, after reviewing the evidence held that defendant was liable for the amount claimed by plaintiff and, judgment was entered accordingly for £57 Os 3d, with court costs £3 ss, witness’s expenses £6 8s and solicitors’ fees £4 3s. On the counterclaim, costs £2 2s and solicitors’ fees £3 3s were also allowed,
A case arising out of th e sale of an hotel was heard at the G rcymouth Magistrate's Court yesterday, when John Keating (Mr W. J- Joyce), licensee of Bearn’s Hotel, lvumani, claimed from ithe former licensee, Mrs Lewis, the sum of £77. In his statement of claim, plaintiff set out that he had purchased the hotel in April, 1930. Included in the stock was 28 gallons of whisky, sold »t.o plaintiff for sale and consumption. Tills whisky, plaintiff had paid for as fit tor sa.e and disposable of in the hotel. DeIVndant had warranted the whisky as a quality of fitness to comply with •‘T tu , salo of food and drugs Act, 1908.” Subsequently, however, plaintiff found that it was at least 48 per cent, under proof, and therefore claimed the sum of £77: which, he alleged, was the purchase price of the whisk}. The sum of £45 19s had been paid into court by defendant prior to the case. In summing up, the Magistrate said that there appeared to be some dissatisfaction over the whisky, but plaintiff seem clear about the matter; all that he knew being that it was broken down too much. He would award plaintiff -the amount paid into court, £43 10s. and would award defendant’s solicitor’s fee £2 2s, and witnesses’ expenses 30s.
