FRIDAY, MARCH 13th

JYA will this evening provide an entertainment in which will be included a short play, two stories by 0. Henry and a musical fantasy. The whole of the performance will be given under the- direction of Mrs Zoe Bartiey-Baxter. The 0. Henry stories which have been dramatised and arranged by Mrs Baxter will be “The Gift of the Magi’’ and “Tin Third Ingredient.” The musical lantasy is based on a fairy tale by Oscar Wilde. The one-act play is entitled “The Price” and ijs from the pen ol George de Clive Lowe, of Auckland. Miss Cicely Audibert will give- her third recital at 2YA this evening, singing to orchestral accompaniment the following songs: “Boat Song” (Ware), “Nymphs and Fauns” (Be»iherg), “The Dreary Steppe” (Grechauinoff) and “Robin’s Song” (White). 'L'he Orcliostriua, under Signor A. R. Truda will supply tlie instrumental music for 2YA’s programme. Mr Eric Harrison (baritone) will sing in lour songs. Mr Stan. Williamson, banjo virtuoso, will he heard in a number of sol eg and Mr William J. McKeon (humorist) will amuse listeners. The concert- programme from 3YA will he light and bright, and of a varied nature. Miss Lucy I.* ullwood will sing “Break O’ Day” and “Cumin’ Thro the Rye.” Miss Jean Johnson’s contralto tsolos will be Bamberg's “Hindoo Song” and Sanderson’s “Harbour Night Song.” Messrs T. G. Rogers and E. J. Johnson will bo the male singers. Several quartettes will be sung. Miss Maisie O-ttey, ;i clever pianiste, will give novelty numbers on the piano. Other instrumental items will be contributed by Miss Irene Morris (vToliaiste), Mr M. E. Withers (clarinetist) and the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio.

Featured on 4YA\s programme will l>e the enactment of scenes from “Tom Brown’s Schooldays.” 'l’he occasion is the anniversary of the death of 'I honius Hughes, the author of that fine and famous English literary classic. Scenes will be presented by Mr McConnell and Mr Lester Mollcr and Mr I). L. Dull. The vocalists on the supporting programme will be Miss Irene Horniblow (contralto) and Mr Wilfred Kershaw (has«). Instrumental aumhors will he given by a trio, Misses Eraser, Moifatt and Judd.

SATURDAY, MARCH 14th. Two new arCvits will be heard from IYA this evening, Miss Eileen Smithsun (singer of popular songs) and [Morris T. Sell rodder (baritone). Mr Robert MeKnight. an exponent of the I'.nglish concertina, will contribute several items. Miss Dorothea Ryan, pianiste, will play Rubenstcin’s “Valse Caprice,” to orchestral accompaniment. A bright programme will he provided by the Orchestral Octet This evening will see the welcome reappearance of Mr Will Bishop’s “Eight o’clock Revues,” at 2YA. This will be the- first performance of the second series of “Grown-up Children’s Hours” specially written and arranged j by Mr Binhop. The Salon Orchestra j will play a varied programme-. There will be a xylophone solo “20th Century j Galop,” by Mr L. W. Probert and j Mi- M. T. Dixon will play “’l’he Clock I and the Dresden Figures” for piano, with orchestral accompaniment. The Orchestra will contribute the- latest, dance novelties. 3YA’s week-end programme (to lie relayed to 4iYA) also, will contain plenty of variety. The Rose and Thistle Duo will fling cabaret songs at the piano with banjolele. Mr A. E. Ward (bass) will sing and Mr Harold Beck will play two ’cello solos. Mr J. Woodham j winner of championship honourjs as a mouth organ player, will play 'lrish, Scottish and French airs, the last mentioned being the stirring “Marseillaise.” Mrs D. W. Stallard. popular contralto, will sing three Scottish songs. Miss Elaine Moody’s Hawaiian Quartet, will steel guitars and ukelele, will contribute popular airs. Also on the programme, providing a varie-t.v of items, will be the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio.
