RAILWAY RENTALS

REMOVING ANOMALIES. WELLINGTON. March 9 The,.Minister of Railways, the Hon W. Veitcli, announces that a senior officer of the Department has been deputed to investigate the position of the rentals of railway dwellings with a view to removing anomalies. While the now method of calculating the rentals was much more equitable than the old system, it was apparent that in some cases the rentals imposed were too high. The new system of assessment had not invariably increased the rentals, as, although various increases had been imposed in the case of 2805 dwellings, the method had resulted in reductions on 700 others. The officer concerned in the review has been authorised to readjust all casts in which the rents to he charged are excessive.
