HIGH COMMISSIONERS

QUESTION OP PRECEDENCE. LONDON, January 29. The question of precedence of High Commissioners for the Dominions in London was discussed at the recent Imperial Conference, and as a result of the discussion his Majesty’s Government in the United Kingdom intimated that it was prepared to recommend to toe King that Dominion High Commissioners should on all ceremonial occasions (other than those when Ministers of the Crown from the respective Dominions were present) rank immediately after Secretaries of State.

Hiis Majesty has now been pleased to diredt that .the High Commissioners for Canada, the Commonwealth of Australia, New Zealand, the Union of South Africa, the Irish I-ree State, and Newfoundland should he given precedence on the occasions in question according to the above principle. His Majesty has also beyn pleased to direct that the 'same arrangements should apply to the High Commissioner for India. The position of the representative oi n Dominion in relation to a Minister of the Crown visiting the United Kingdom from that Dominion will remain unaltered, and a Minister of Crown from a Dominion visiting the United Kingdom will normally be given precedence immediately before the High Commissioner concerned.
