SULPHUR FUMES

Seventy thousand sterling has been assessed by the International Commissioner against the Canadian Pacific Railways, owners of a consolidated smelter located in the town, in a trial for damage by sulphur fumes in the State r-f Washington. Damages in this unique case cover ten years. The smelter operates twenty miles ‘rom the international boundary but the fumes drift southward into the United States and fill farm valleys, killing vegetation forty miles square. By erecting a huge two million' sterling fertiliser plant, the Swelter Coy. will hereafter turn the fumes into a profitable channel.
