Ritchie pleaded guilty to obtaining money and goods by false pretences. It was stated that he had been following bis occupation at Hawera, but had not been employed for six or seven months. He knew lie had no money in the bank, but issued it number of cheques mainly to hotelkeepers, 'file excuse was made that lie lmd been on a drinking bout.
