The outward correspondence was approved. INWARI) CORRESPONDENCE. From Department Internal Affairs acknowledging letter regarding particulars of deer destruction. — Received. From same with respect to an open season for opossums, which was being considered. — Received. From same notifying that donations to the Earthquake Relief f und would be validated by Parliament.—Received. From same forwarding receipt for purchase of 1000 rounds ol ammunition for deer destruction. Received. It was reported the ammunition was being distributed by Mr Armstrong. From Constable Brooks advising Ranger Hodgkmson had brought in 228 deer tails for cheeking.—Received, and royalty passed tor payment. From Conservator of Forests replying that enquiry was being made in regard to deer fails lost by C. Hodgkinson in a flood. —Received. From same reporting a party of forest Service Officers was making a rennaisance of the doer menace from Canterbury into the Landsborough, Clarke and llaast valleys.— Received. From (trey District Society stating it hau been decided to adhere to the previous decision no tlo apply for an open season lor opossums, the setilois and trappers being opposed to it.—Received. From Postal Department notifying issue of 'leer stalking licenses tor ''■kmtli Westland. Received. From Auckland Society enquiring if a bonus was to be paid for tails of stoats and weasels, when prelection re-
moved.— Rec.ei veil and eon si derat ion deferred. From Southland Society offering brown trout eyed ova at os per thousand, f.o.r. Lumsdeii. Receiver!. From Otago Society, similar offer, early application being necessary. —Received. It was resolved to order o.io.(K)() ova from each Society for West'and and Grey district societies. PIGEON SHOOTING. A late visitor to the district reported on return to Wellington that shooting of pigeons was rile in the district, awl enquiry was made l as to the action tailed. It was resolved to arrange for a ranger for the district to include duties of deer culling and control of the opossum season. The opinion was expressed that pigeons were on toe mcrea.se substantially all over the district. mid any illicit shooting done was in the back country where ranging wotdd be difficult. It was decided also to ask for the co-operation of the police in the matter.
It was decided to hold the annual meeting on the 16th pros. The meeting rose at 8 p.m.
