MISS ENGLAND 11.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR SPEED TESTS. LONDON, January 15. Aliss England 11., in which Sir Henry Segrave lost his life on Lake Windermere, has been reconditioned and is to he taken to the Buenos Ayres Exhibition. Arrangements have been completed with the. Argentine Minister for Alarine for an official attempt to set up a new world’s record, to be made on a tributary of the River Plate near Buenos Ayres. A long stretch of the river is to be specially swept -by naval vessels, and submarine nets will guard the reach against driftwood and other floating objects which might lead to disaster.
The “step” of the boat has beenlined with stainless steel, and any danger o. a second accident occurring through the boat striking -.driftwood has been reduced to a minimum. A new propeller, one of the most wonderful features of the reconditioned Miss England 11., has been made in a manner never before attempted, and is regarded by experts as an engineering wonder. ,As the propeller shaft is geared up to the terrific speed of about 12,000 revolutions per minute, the strain on the propeller itself will be immense. Picked engineers at the Rolls-Royce work's at Derby have been engaged for six weeks in creating this propeller. Jt is, machined from an 80 lb. forging of special steel. Its machining took 350 hours, and its weighs about lolh.
