HONOURS FOR CHAPLIN

LONDON PROPOSAL. HE GIVES TREAT TO HTS OLD SCHOOL. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, February 23. Great excitement prevailed at Mr Charles Chaplin’s old school at Hanwell, where the children awaited his arrival, the school hand playing. A large van arrived loaded with custard pies, which were distributed. Then came another van containing other sweets. Lastly came a private car, with Mr Chaplin’s emissaries carrying a bag of brand new shillings from the mint. Charlie Chaplin himself did not appear. It was explained later that he had intended to visit the school, but it became known, and therefore it could not 1)0 a private affair as he had desired. A movement to bestow an official honour on Air Chaplin is being widely supported.
