GOLD BEARING AREA
INVERCARGILL, February 18. A party of geologists, consisting of Professors Benson (Dunedin), Bertrand (Auckland), King (Wellington), Kehle (Melbourne) returned from a six weeks’ expedition in Preservation and Chalky 'lnlets, West Coast Sounds by the ketch Scout, bringing a large quantity of specimens for analysis. Professor Keble said: From my researches I have come to the conclusion there is untold wealth in auriferous metals in the Sounds, but to wrest the treasure from nature, the work would have to tie carried out under seientfic methods. Indications and reefs were met with exactly similar to the gold-ben rina area of Australia. Tn no part of New Zealand is there such a promise of rich results he : ng obtained, as in the vicinity of Preservation Inlet. He suggested that a number of men should lie employed, making tracks to open up the inaccessible regions.
