NEW STATION AT NELSON. (Jin Telei/rapli. — I’er I’rcss Association) NELSON, February 18. The (jovdrnmcnt’s .Biological Research Station in relation to lorestry, was officially opened at the Cawtlimn Institute this afternoon by the lion 1:1. At.more. Mr Phillip Turner (Dilector of Forestry), Mr Fowcraker (('hairman of the Biological Research Committee;, and Mr Cribble (Secretary oi the New Zealand Timber Growers As-ocial-ion), were among those ires nt. The .Minister and other speakers testified to (lie importance of the station in preventing the spread ol diseases among New Zealand forests and plantations. So much was now being spent on afforestation that it was essential that, such work should he properly undertaken. Dr .Miller (Chief of the Entomological Department of the Cawthron Institute) will he in charge of the cute mological work, and Dr Cunningham in charge of the mycological work at Palmerston North. the Minister said the work ot the Cawthron institute was valued not omy in Nelson and New Zealand But hv scientist in all parts of the world.
