RACING

OAMARU RACING CLUB. The adjourned meeting of the Oamnru Racing Club was held on Friday afternoon. Air William Gardiner presided. Tho business of the meeting was to consider whether the club race on the March dates. A reply was received from the Racing Conference on the question as to whether the dates would be protected. Air Gardiner said, ,to bis mind, tlie reply was unsatisfactory. It wais high time the Alinistcr took matters in hand as far as the country clubs were concerned. He was of the same opinion that lie expressed at last mooting. Air Houghton pointed out that the club bad already paid £250 to the Government, and if they did not race they would not got a refund. In reply to Air Houghton the chairman stated that seemingly the club could not get the dates protected, and the reply was not satisfactory. TUAPEKA JOCKEY CLUB. At the last meeting of the Tuapeka Jockey Club Mr G. H.. Martin presided. After a lengthy discussion it was decided, in view of the present economic. depression, and the published statement that the club’s permit would be protected, not to bold the annual race .meeting at Easter this year. Tt is considered by some members that the club should review the position and reduce the stakes. The club lias been conducting meetings for over 50 years, and naturally a considerable number are loth to let -this year’s meeting lapse, but it appears that to bold a race meeting under present conditions would be to face a crippling loss. For one day’s racing the club lias given more in stakes in proportion to the amount put through• the totalisator than any other club in Otago.
