A ,tremendous burst of cheering from a packed house this evening signalised the feat of Lindrum, after an hour’s play, with consecutive breal * of 473 and 982, taking the lead for t h e first time in his match with Newman. His breaks included runs of 123, 104, and 126 close cannons. Both breaks terminated rather unluckily by a failure over thin losers. Lindrum had proved his superlative qualities in the afternoon when, showing his usun* powers of recovery, he made almost anvthing seem possible. Within twenty minutes he scored five bundled, ol n-hich 141 wore obtained by close cannons which he carried on fo 094, leaving a double balk, after which he scored" one thousand in thirty-nine minutes by repeated runs of cannons, concluding the break with 1484. and a double balk. In subsequent safety play he left two more double balks. Lin drum throughout the day averaged 271. and Newman averaged 28. " Newman missed opportunities, but l nt e in the evening, he made a break of 221. and sob-wouently bis clever tactics kept out Lindrum.
