C.J.C. CUT IX STAKES. CHRISTCHURCH, February 12. The Canterbury Jockey Club has reduced the stakes for the Easter Meeting £llOO on the first day. The Great Easter Stake is being reduced by £250 and that of the Sockburn Handicap by £IOO. The Champagne Stakes is being increased by £IOO. All the other races are being reduced £SO. On the second day the Challenge Stakes is unaltered. The Great Autumn is reduced £250, the Templeton Handicap by £IOO, and all the others by £SO. The Gimcrack ‘Handicap on the first day is note a selling race.
APPEAL FAILS. WELLINGTON, February 12. In an appeal by R. Oregon- against the decision of the Hawkes Ray District Racing Club Oonunittee in disqualifying him for twelve months for withfully failing to register Ins partnership with F. S. Hellyer over the horse Lady Spy, the judgment of the New Zealand Racing Conference says: The appeal is on a question of fact. Nothing lias been brought before the Appeal Judges, which, in their opinion, justifies them in disturbing the finding of the Hawkes Bay District Committee, which had the advantage of hearing the witnesses and observing their demeanour. The appeal is therefore dismissed. and the order for the return of the stakes is confirmed.
