The trouble which arose over the visit, of tho Japanese ship Brisbane Muru was the subject of a short discussion at a meeting ol the council of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce this evening. Mr A. J. Curtios suggested that flic chamber-should write to tlie Watersiders’ Union pointing out .that for some time past efforts had been made to promote trade with the Fast. I h;s action had been taken in the interests of trade and New Zealand generally. A number of watersiders were obie< ■-in ,r to a Japan'esc ship taking cargo Irom Australia to New Zealand'. It. was decided to draw the attention of the Watersiders’ Union to the fact that, trade with the Fast was considered to he in the interests of the country. RAILWAY CROSSING FATALITY. CAM All U, February 12 - Collision took place at Maheiio railway crossing at 8.4/5 o’clock this morning between a train Irom Oainaru and a ear proceeding to Christchurch. Ibe driver, Mr Kncwstubb of Port Chalmers was taken to the Oainaru hospital and died an hour after admission. Mrs Kncwstubb and daughter and Mrs Turner are also in the hospital. The extent of their injuries are unknown. Two of Mrs Turner’s children were unhurt. Tt is thought. the car stalled on tlie railway line. The crossing is not dangerous.
CHURCH UNION. CHRISTCHURCH, February 12. Tho General Synod of tlie Anglican Church to-night passed the following resolutions That this Synod invites the leaders of the lion-episcopal churches to confer with a view of exploring possibilities of reunion ; and that representatives of the Anglican Church lie appointed by the Primate as occasion may require in consultation v ith 'tlie Bishop of the diocese where such conference or conferences may take place. TNVE ..CAHILL, February 12. Thomas Hamilton Muir. 4(5, married, an accountant, was found in his shop this afternon unconscious, with a rifle bullet wound in his head, believed to have been self indicted. He was removed to the Hospital, where lie died two hours later.
