WAIROA OVERLOOKED
BIS3ENT FROM MAYOR’S ACTION. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) A\ ELLINGTON. February 12. At a meeting of the local Unemployment Relief ( ouuuittee hist evening, resolutions were unamiously passed drawing the Public Works Minister's attention to one hundred men rn extreme circumstances on the Kopttawliara railway work, who were evidently overlooked through the earthquake disaster during the recent parliamentary visit. Also, that the committee entirely disassociates itself from tne replies forwarded by the .Mayor which stated Wairoa required no local relief. I he district has suffered just much as other earthquake areas, and urgently needs financial help. It was decided to request the Minister of Labour to visit tin- district at the earliest possible moment and investigate the alarming problem of increasing unemployment, accentuated greatly by the severe earthquake and the fire at the freezing works. Regret is expressed here that no Cabinet Minister has yet visited this isolate ddistriefc. A quarter of a million will not cover the'local losses.
