THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
THE NATIONAL DISASTER. In this hour of sorrow New Zealand is consoled by the- sympathy of the world. It was something to the good that immediately the news went out to New Zealand, assistance was so promptly organised and help so freely offered. Now come expressions of warm sympathy and offers of assistance from overseas. New Zealanders are profoundly grateful for these. How much help it may be desirable, to accept from other countries cannot, yet be determined. Jn the meantime, local lists are being opened in various parts of the Dominion—and citizens have an opportunity of giving what they can to succour their stricken fel-low-countrymen. The response, we are sure, will he prompt and generous. —Northern Paper.
