KAIRANGA RETRENCHMENT, (By Telegraph —Per Press Association) PALMERSTON N., February JO. The Jvairanga County Council today accepted the offer of its chairman, All- J. Batchelor, to reduce his honorarium by fifty pounds. It was also decided that councillors will not be paid for attending meetings. to dispense with the services ot the engineer, reduce the salary of the County Clerk bv twenty-five pounds, and the wages of drivers to fourteen shillings, and iOtlier employees to twelve shillings and sixpence. Annual holidays on full pay are to be discontinued. OBSTRUCTING THE POLICE AUCKLAND, February 11. Hary Powell, aged 21, was convicted and remanded until to-day, on a charge of obstructing a constable oy pulling at his tunic. Powell was also convicted on charges of damaging a police helmet and obstructing Sergeant ('list. A constable described the accused as the ringleader and most troublesome of all. A married woman, Violet Grace Robingson. a domestic, who admitted hurling a brick through the Labour Bureou jug a brick through the Labour Bureau having in a disorderly way. Accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE WELLINGTON, February 11. Frederick Owen March. 18. who imposed on firms some time ago by giving bogus orders for cigarettes in the names of various shops, was before the Magistrate to-day, on charges of false pretences, and was given two years’ Borstal detention.
