Hearing of the impending trek, the Chamber of Commerce despatched the following message to tin* Prime Minister: — “One hundred men have been discharged Iron) Waikokopu and arc coming to Gisborne. Local orgimsntions cannot assist them, being busy with earthquake relict. The Chamber of Commerce suggests a continuance of the work at Waikokopu or the flint.ing of work elsewhere.”
