PENSIONS REPORT. (British. Official Wireiesx.) RUGBY, February 8The annual report of the Pensions [Ministry states that the total number of persons receiving war pensions at tbe end oi' March last year, was approximately 1.370,000 comprising 24.000 officers, 273,000 men, 140,000 widows. 261.000 children, 471.000 parents and other dependents and 1000 nurses. This is a reduction on the previous year of 160.000 caused by deaths, re-marriages and other normal causes. Expenditure on war pensions for the year was £54.000,000.
BRITISH CENSUS, RUGBY. February 8. The British census which is fixed for April 26, will occupy the attention of between 12 and 13 million householders. Engaged on the compilation will be 1800 local registrars 40,000 numerators, and a headquarters staff of about 500 all bound to secrecy about the particulars given on the pa pel’s. Returns will be counted by remarkable* machines which work with great rapidity.
