DISASTER PREDICTED
"FIERY, DESTRUCTIVE EARTHQUAKE.” In view of the present disaster at Napier it is interesting to recall that such a catastrophe in New Zealand was prophesied in Raphanl’s Almanac for 1931. a well-known English publication issued on August 1 last. Under the heading of New Zealand, the book has the following to say:— "This country will enjoy a period o( expansion and much trade activity. A profitable season will bring increns ; of trade, and money will be plentihil in the land. The stationary positioi of March is likely to cause a drought .-in some parts and also fiery, destructive earthquake shocks, especially over the Northern Island.” Elsewhere the book states that early this year New Zealand will be visited bv a tidal wave along her north-east coastline.
