SMUGGLING OPIUM

The trial has begun at Diren of ten prominent Japanese businessmen -and officials, charged with smuggling opium derivatives of a value of two hundred thousand sterling. A large corps of counsel is engaged in the defence and every endeavour is being made to prove the regulations do not include an embargo on the particular drugs concerned, but the facts are admitted.
