Early on the morning of Sunday January 25tli, three masked men entered the home of Sidney Taylor, 11 Wellington Street, and alter consuming food in tlie kitchen entered Taylor’s bedroom, where lie and bis wile were asleep. One man stood over each of them armed with sticks while the I lin'd searched the room lor nionev. I’ay lor awoke and was then struck with the. Initt of a stock whip. After stealing IDs and more food the trio escaped. The three suspects are now arrested and appear shortly at Court. OLD IDENTITY’S DEATH. CHRISTCHURCH, February 2. The death occurred af his residence Clarence Road Rieearton, on Saturday of Thomas Laughton Pat.triek, one ot flm few surviving members of the Canterbury Pilgrims, who landed at Lyttelton in the first four ships in 1850. He was born in Hnndleby in the County of Lincoln, England, on December 1 1810. Pattriek sailed with bis parents in the ‘‘Cressy’’ when he was only three years old. His father, Joseph Pattriek at once made bis Lome in Canterbury and early engaged iii farming pursuits at Loburn, where he reared a family of 20 children. It was Joseph Pattriek who preached the first sermon to the Canterbury Pilgrims in Hagley Park. UNEMPLOYED DEMON ST RATION. CHRISTCHURCH. February 2. About two hundred unemployed men paraded outside the Post Office this morning and their leaders placed a request before the officials that application forms for sustenance grants should bo issued. The men wore informed that forms were unavailable and that the officials could do nothing for them at present. Subsequently the men marched to Trades Hall, where ii. w;ts deciding to wait on post office officials again the following morning.

February 1. i Cl ivy Hall and the public library, a i wooden building, valued at £1,501), and the contents, including a cinema plant and _ thirteen thousand books, was completely destroyed by fire at an early hour this morning. A small three-roomed dwelling and a shed adjoining were also destroyed. The hall was insured for £I.OOO, the. picture plant for £2OO and the furniture, etc,, for £3OO.

One strut- of the wing was broken and other minor damage occurred. which will he repaired by the cluli’s engineer. .The pilot was not injured.
